How to Spend Your Holiday Break in 2020
The last holiday break for 2020 is here. This year has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs for many people, with the pandemic upending normal life for people around the world. It can be tough to know quite what to do for your last break of the year, given the circumstances. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a fun holiday break. Here are a few ideas.
Stick Around with Friends
You might have concerns about traveling back home for the holidays, given the ongoing pandemic environment. College-age individuals make up a significant portion of virus cases, which can make going back home to be around family a point of concern. As an alternative, you might consider getting together for a socially distanced meal with friends who are staying on campus for the holidays. Potluck-style dinners can make getting together for a holiday dinner easier, since no one person will have to pay for and prepare all the food for everyone. Be sure to take precautions to keep everything sanitary and safe. You might consider, for example, providing hand sanitizer for everyone and placing chairs six feet apart.
Take a Road Trip
End of the year holiday breaks tend to leave students with nothing but time on their hands. This could mean that it's the perfect time to take a road trip. You don't have to own a car to do this either. Renting a car can be a great way to get around without having to own your own or concern yourself with the wear and tear on your own car if you do have one. Age doesn't have to be a barrier either. You can still rent a car if you're an under 25 adult by paying an extra fee.
Getting into the Holiday Spirit
Whether you choose to stay on campus, take a road trip, or go home to spend the holidays with family, find ways to get into the holiday spirit. Decorate your space with fun holiday decorations. Listen to and sing along with favorite holiday songs. Find ways to give to others. Visit with family and friends over video conferences. Watch favorite holiday movies and indulge in favorite holiday traditions. Finding ways to get into the spirit of the holidays can make yours merry and bright, even if they may not be quite what they normally are.
If you aren't quite sure how to spend your holiday break this year, there are plenty of good options worth considering. You could stick around campus and celebrate the holidays with your college friends. If you need a change of scenery, consider taking a road trip. Whatever option you decide, find ways to get into the holiday spirit and make the best of your holiday break before the next year starts.
